City Council Pro Tempore Michael Correia of Ward Six extends his gratitude to the first responders who acted quickly and diligently to put out last night’s fire at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
“The men and women who serve as first responders in the City of Providence are the best in the nation,” stated City Council Pro Tempore Michael Correia. “The fire at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital could have been catastrophic, but because a young visitor to the hospital noticed the flames, our city’s firefighters were able to act and put it out quickly. As always, I’m grateful for the work of all our first responders.”
The fire at Hasbro Children’s Hospital was a 2 alarm fire and did not impede the work of the hospital’s staff.

Since the early hours of this morning, I have heard from multiple neighbors regarding their concerns for their safety and that of their families after a man was shot and killed outside of the Steam Tap bar on Andem Street. Unfortunately, this is not the first violent incident that has occurred in relation to this location.
Rest assured that I am working with the Providence Police Department, the Providence Board of Licenses and community members to ensure that the Steam Tap is closed until a full hearing can be had by the Board of Licenses.
The safety of the residents in my community is paramount, and I will work to protect our quality of life at all costs.

Ward Six Councilman, Michael Correia, announces that Cracksealing will take place tonight, October 22, 2018 on Chalkstone Avenue from Academy Avenue to River Avenue. Please expect delays.
“Cracksealing is an important part of our road infrastructure planning,” said Councilman Michael Correia. “We appreciate the hard work the men and women of the Department of Public Works does every day, and I’m glad that I could earmark funds to ensure that our Ward Six streets get attention.”

“I meet with constituents every day, and the one thing that I hear over and over is about the state of our roads in Providence,” stated Councilman Michael Correia. “I’m very happy to have earmarked some of my Neighborhood Infrastructure Funds to care for Ward Six roadways.”

Ward Six Councilman Michael Correia has announced his plans for neighborhood improvements using his Neighborhood Infrastructure Funding (NIF). Through the NIF program, every Councilor is awarded $100,000.00 in the City’s budget to spend on brick and mortar projects in their respective neighborhoods.
“I meet with constituents every day at coffee shops, on the street, or just walking through the neighborhood who have great ideas for improvements for our neighborhood,” stated Councilman Michael Correia. “I take those ideas and concerns and try and find solutions. Sometimes, the solution can be found in a current city program or by working with a specific city department. Sometimes, the only solution is to find funding for these community improvements, and the NIF Funding allows us Councilors to make real-time improvements in our neighborhoods. I believe my plan for neighborhood improvements will enhance the quality of life for all who live here and do business here.”
Councilman Correia’s planned improvements will include:
• Pedestrian Blinking Light at Academy Avenue near the Blessed Sacrament Church.
• New Trash and Recycling Barrels to be placed in the Academy Ave. Business District.
•Sidewalk repairs in the Academy Avenue Business District.
• Neighborhood tree planting – which will include 40 trees throughout Ward Six.
• Atwells Avenue & Manton Avenue plaza improvements which will include a welcome sign, bench, and trash and recycling barrels.
• Academy Avenue & Chalkstone Avenue “Welcome to the Neighborhood” sign.
• Manton Heights Security Camera upgrades.
