Councilman Nicholas Narducci (Ward 4) is pleased to welcome Opera Providence and the “Celebrate Providence! Neighborhood Performing Arts Initiative” coordinated by the Providence Art, Culture & Tourism Department in collaboration with the Department of Parks & Recreation and Partnership for Providence Parks. The upcoming performances by Opera Providence, a local arts organization with the mission of “engaging and inspiring audiences through opera as the ultimate theater experience of music”, will be held at Hopkins Square on Charles Street at 5 PM on Sunday July 9, July 16, July 23 and July 30.
Providence’s Art, Culture & Tourism Department states, “the weekly themes and selections will showcase music from Latin America, Italy and America while providing a festive and welcoming atmosphere to opera fans and those experiencing the genre for the first time.” Councilman Narducci adds that “the event offers community members in Ward 4 an opportunity to celebrate and engage with the performing arts in a family-friendly atmosphere.” The event is free and open to the public.

The Providence City Council on Thursday approved an ordinance that regulates dog breeding in Providence and requires dogs that are not registered for breeding to be spayed or neutered. The ordinance was introduced by Councilman Nicholas Narducci (Ward 4).
“We’ve taken an important step to ensure that dogs are bred responsibly in our city,” said Councilman Narducci. “This ordinance is the first of its kind in the state and will serve as a model for other municipalities to promote the well-being of animals.”
The ordinance establishes a new dog breeding permit, which will be administered by the City’s Animal Control Department. Potential breeding sites will be inspected prior to approval; sites must be found in compliance with applicable laws and meet the department’s standards for the proper care and breeding of dogs.
The ordinance also sets a maximum limit of 3 adult dogs per household and mandates that a dog owner without a breeding permit is required to have their dog/s spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.
The ordinance is endorsed by the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA). “The Rhode Island SPCA firmly supports the passage of this ordinance and commends the Providence City Council for setting a precedent for the rest of the state to follow,” said RISPCA Animal Cruelty Officer Joe Warzycha.

The Order of the Sons of Italy of America (OSIA) Piave Lodge #364 of Providence today announced that Councilman Nicholas Narducci (Ward 4) has been selected as the recipient of the organization’s 2017 Merit Award. Narducci was chosen for his commitment to the City of Providence, dedication to his constituents, and contributions to the Italo-American community.
“Councilman Narducci is a great source of support to the Italian American community in Providence,” said Lodge President Gary DiSarro. “We are grateful for his service and we’re proud to name him this year’s recipient.”
“Coming from a large Italian American family, it is a great honor to be chosen for his award,” said Narducci.
The OSIA is the largest and oldest Italian heritage organization in the United States. Founded in 1905 as a mutual aid society for the early Italian immigrants, the OSIA is the leading service and advocacy organization for the nation’s estimated 26 million people of Italian descent. Its missions include encouraging the study of Italian language and culture in American schools; preserving Italian American traditions, culture, history, and heritage; and promoting closer cultural relations between the United States and Italy.
Narducci will be presented the award at the organization’s 42nd annual Saint Joseph’s Day Dinner on Sunday, March 19th.
