Strengthening Tenant Protections

Ensuring housing stability requires more than just regulating the rental market.

It also demands strong, enforceable protections for tenants who are at risk of displacement. Without safeguards in place, renters in Providence remain vulnerable to arbitrary evictions, price gouging, and forced displacement due to circumstances beyond their control. Given rising eviction rates and increasing homelessness, the Task Force recommends policies that provide tenants with legal protections, financial support, and opportunities to remain in their homes.
