Councilwoman Shelley Peterson represents Ward 14 which includes the neighborhoods of Elmhurst and Wanskuck. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Ordinances and the Committee on Ward Boundaries. Peterson is also a member of the Committee on City Property, the Committee on Claims and Pending Suits, Special Committee on Health, Opportunity, Prosperity, and Education (HOPE), the Housing Crisis Task Force, and the Committee on State Legislative Affairs.
Shelley Peterson has been a resident of Ward 14 for 20 years. She grew up in East Providence and moved to Boston to attend Suffolk University for both her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. She returned in 2005 and soon after, moved to Ward 14 and started her family.
Peterson maintained her volunteerism in local work, founding the Friends of Fargnoli Park and helping redevelop Fargnoli Park with Elmhurst neighbors. Additionally, she sits on the Board of Habitat for Humanity and has sat on the Boards of the Partnership for Providence Parks, the Resident Advisory Council through Central Providence Opportunities at 1NB.
Peterson has worked in the non-profit industry for over 20 years and is a small business owner. She lives with her husband Douglas and two children.
