Councilman Wilbur Jennings
Councilman Wilbur Jennings has been a member of City Council since 2010. He currently serves as Deputy Majority Leader and represents constituents in Ward 8, which covers the Reservoir and West End neighborhoods. Councilman Jennings serves as a member of the Committee on City Property and Committee on Claims and Pending Suits.
Born and raised in Providence’s West End to a large family (Jennings is one of 13 children), the Councilman has spent the majority of his life in public service. After attending Central High School, he worked for the City of Providence for 28 years in a variety of positions, eventually attaining the position of Deputy Superintendent and Superintendent of several divisions within the Department of Public Works.
Civic Interests & Leadership
During his tenure on City Council, Jennings has focused his efforts on helping low-income residents and working families. Prior to election to the Council, Jennings served as a member of the Providence Housing Authority and he served on the Providence Community Action Program’s (ProCAP) Board of Directors for eight years. Councilman Jennings is a also a strong supporter of youth sports and recreational initiatives. A member of the Board of Parks Commissions over the years, Jennings believes athletics help improve the lives for young people. He has a passion for athletics and has been involved with many personal training, weight-lifting, and boxing programs in his community over the last four decades.
A dedicated family man, Councilman Jennings still lives in the West End with his wife Aridia, and he is the proud father of seven children: Darrell, Donnell, Keyshawn, Parris, Sasha, Tremaine, and Wilbur III.
